Ultimate List of Kids’ Shows

March 4, 2019

A few months ago, I got on Instagram Stories to ask fellow moms for TV kid show recs. My two main hopes were A) to find shows that both Zianne (5) and Talitha (3 1/2) could watch together, as Z is starting to get bored with shows geared toward preschoolers and B) to find shows that are appropriate and don’t exemplify snotty, rude attitudes (like some of the Barbie shows Z is drawn to).

I got SO many responses.

I wrote them all down and promised to share them with other moms, but the list is so long it has taken me a while to get around to it.

Here is finally… the ultimate list of kids’ shows. Please note that I haven’t vetted all these. I am simply passing on ideas other moms gave to me.

Here are the top ten most recommended shows:

  • Grand Prize Winner: Wild Kratts (PBS/Prime)
  • Runner-up: Magic School Bus (old OR new version – Netflix)
  • Super Why (Netflix)
  • Spirit (Netflix)
  • Fancy Nancy (Disney Junior)
  • Ask the Storybots (Netflix)
  • Octonauts (Netflix)
  • Llama Llama (Netflix)
  • Curious George (PBS)
  • Team Umizoomi (Prime/Nick Jr.)

Here are the honorable mentions. Each of these were recommended more than once:

  • Dino Dana (Prime)
  • Earth to Luna (Prime)
  • Beat Bugs (Netflix)
  • Super Wings (Netflix)
  • Stella and Sam (Prime)
  • Daniel Tiger (Prime/PBS)
  • Blaze (Nick Jr.)
  • Masha and the Bear (Netflix)

Red flag list: Moms mentioned these shows display whining and bad attitudes. I haven’t seen all of them but thought I would include them as an FYI.

  • Equestria Girls
  • Barbie Dreamhouse (I guess this is the specific Barbie show that’s bad.)
  • Caillou
  • Popples
  • Pinkalicious

May we all find ways to use TV in moderation as a tool for learning and fun! 🙂

About Jen Russum

Hi. I’m Jen Russum and this blog is where I’ve been sharing narratives of God’s grace for more than a decade now. Some might say “blogs are dead” but I’m waiting for them to come back around like mom jeans and 90s flannel. I enjoy my coffee iced, my summers hot, and my dinner parties long with lots of laughter. I process all of life’s deepest, darkest, and happiest moments by writing essays in my head. When I have the time, some of these essays get typed up and shared here. I’ve always loved to write, and I hope my words bring you joy and encouragement.
