A Nesting Shower

A Nesting Shower

June 4, 2013

Yesterday, I had lunch with my friend Jordan and her almost-three month old baby boy. Today, I will show you pictures from the baby shower I threw for her, oh, over five months ago. A group of girls helped me throw Jordan a "nesting" shower and it was so much fun. The original inspiration for the shower came from this blog post, which I randomly stumbled upon one day. At the time, I wasn't hosting any upcoming events, so I saved it in the archives as a possible "cutest shower ever" award winner. When I got the privilege to host Jordan's shower, I knew the nesting theme would be perfect. If you hop over to Jordan's blog, you will see that she already has a thing for birds... and her blog colors of aqua and lime were going to be used in the baby's nursery. With this knowledge, I created a whole secret Pinterest board with ideas for the party and shared it with the other hostesses. I should also mention that Jordan and Chris did a gender surprise {and they encourage us that it's totally worth it to wait!}, so I wanted to be careful that the shower didn't seem too boy-ish or too girl-ish. Since I used aqua, lime, and hints of navy for the color scheme, I also included lots of floral and paisley prints to keep it from looking like a boy shower. Mainly, I just wanted it to be a pretty party for Jordan to enjoy. This is my second time throwing a gender neutral shower and I think they are so much fun. {You can see the first one here.} Anyway, the shower turned out lovely and I had so much help, especially with food, and it made the day a breeze. It was so fun to celebrate Jordan and her sweet baby, who turned out to be a Liam! Linking up with: House of Hepworths and The Shabby Creek Cottage ... Read more

Life Lately

Life Lately

June 3, 2013

I just had this startling realization that it's JUNE. What?! This means I got out of school one month ago. I thought time would slow to a crawl after classes ended, the weather got warmer, and my bump got bigger, but that has not been the case. Time is still flying. I feel like I am just getting a grasp on the things I need to get done this summer and a month of it is already gone! Baby arrives in a little over three months. So much to do still! But here are a bunch of the crazy events that have been keeping me busy over the past few weeks...   22 week run vs. 25 week run {aka probably my last ever pregnancy run due to the extreme back pain and lack of normal walking ability that ensued afterward}   Baby boots and Mother's Day Brunch   Summer to-do list... test drive strollers and make a plan to stay on track with school during my fake "maternity leave" this summer and fall   Pontoon-ing in San Diego for Bekah's 30th!          Then we drove up north to spend the rest of Memorial Day Weekend with my college roommate, her husband, and their precious boys. A day trip to Malibu was one of our adventures!      The party's always at our place... I made the lemon cake for a friend's fiesta a few weeks ago. And this past weekend my SIL threw us a baby shower pool party with all her friends! So fun!   I guess this makes me an official "mommy blogger?"   Happy moments. Hot chocolate date with husband. The day Gary Patterson followed me on Twitter. Eek!     Got to attend a fun Diamondbacks game with Micah's work. We sat in the guest dugout right next to the REAL dugout.      Cousins and pool parties. They go together perfectly. |Linking up with Blair's new Life Lately series| ... Read more

24 weeks

24 weeks

May 30, 2013

Today, I am officially 25 weeks. But we all know these pictures are from 24 weeks, because who really has time to take bump pictures and upload, edit, and post them all in the same week? Not me, my friends. 24 weeks felt monumental in a sense. I had a doctor's appointment that morning {and my glucose test... I passed - hoorah! But I have low iron - boo!}, and my OB greeted me with "Happy Viability Day." This was just days after reading a premature birth story, which had me crying in a hipster coffee shop, and so week 24 felt especially sacred. Not that I want a preemie baby, but I am extremely thankful that modern American medicine and neonatal specialists can keep babies alive out of the womb at 24 weeks. One of my best friends lives in Ethiopia and she reminded me that this is an American privilege and God's grace. Babies don't survive at 24 weeks around the world. Just a humbling reminder... Anyway, I love the way these pictures turned out. I got adventurous and took photos somewhere other than my own back yard. I should probably do that more often. Less than four months until we meet this little babe...   Dress: Old Navy Maternity // Sandals: Jessica Simpson // Necklace: Boutique in Byron Bay, Australia Linking up with: Because Shanna Said So, The Pleated Poppy, Dear Abby Leigh, My Thrifty Chic, & Style Elixir!   ... Hi. I’m Jen Russum and this blog is where I’ve been sharing narratives of God’s grace for more than a decade now. Some might say “blogs are dead” but I’m waiting for them to come back around like mom jeans and 90s flannel. I enjoy my coffee iced, my summers hot, and my dinner parties long with lots of laughter. I process all of life’s deepest, darkest, and happiest moments by writing essays in my head. When I have the time, some of these essays get typed up and shared here. I’ve always loved to write, and I hope my words bring you joy and encouragement.
