Honey Butter Beer Bread

March 14, 2014

A recipe post? On a Friday? Not the norm for me. But when I posted a picture of the beer bread I made for our St. Patrick’s themed community group yesterday, I had so many requests for the recipe that I thought I should post it ASAP. If you have any Irish-themed events between now and St. Patrick’s Day on Monday, you will be able to whip up a loaf {or two} of your own honey butter beer bread in a snap.
I am not going to lie. I doubled the recipe below and both loaves got demolished by a group of 10 last night. There were two slices left this morning, so my sister and I polished them off for breakfast.
So easy. So delicious. Enjoy!

What you need:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons honey
1 bottle (12 ounce) your favorite beer
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly

What you do:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 by 5 inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray or butter.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add in the honey and beer and mix until just combined. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Evenly pour the melted butter over the top of the batter.
3. Transfer the pan to the oven and place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any butter that may drip from the pan. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until a cake tester inserted in the middle comes out clean and the top is golden brown.

To make your own honey butter to serve with bread…

Mix ½ cup (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter at room temperature with 1 tablespoon honey and ¼ teaspoon salt.

Does it matter what kind of beer you use? I have a lonely, random bottle of Shiner Ruby (made with Texas ruby red grapefruit) in the fridge, it's been in there over a year! You know, some say the yeast in beer aide lactation. Mmmmm, making this bread tonight!

Dude, I TOTALLY made this the other day too! I was scanning through Pinterest, saw the ingredients, knew we had them all on hand and whipped it up so fast. When I told Blake that I was making bread. From scratch. He about keeled over in amazement. So domestic. 🙂

Um, your recipe maybe just inspired this non-cooking gal to try to bake bread! Looks amazing!!!

Hi. I’m Jen Russum and this blog is where I’ve been sharing narratives of God’s grace for more than a decade now. Some might say “blogs are dead” but I’m waiting for them to come back around like mom jeans and 90s flannel. I enjoy my coffee iced, my summers hot, and my dinner parties long with lots of laughter. I process all of life’s deepest, darkest, and happiest moments by writing essays in my head. When I have the time, some of these essays get typed up and shared here. I’ve always loved to write, and I hope my words bring you joy and encouragement.
