Flowers Fade Friday: A Whisper.

May 18, 2012

Not much to
say this Friday. I am off to San Diego today to visit two of my best friends
for the weekend. I am so excited for quality girl time with two ladies I can
share my soul with…
Until then,
I just want to encourage you.
Do you ever
get the feeling that God is whispering encouragement to you?
Perhaps you
have taken on some task, role or job.
You are
dabbling in a new hobby.
Investing in
a friendship.
Trying a new
parenting technique or exercise routine or a new way to approach your quiet
times with the Lord.
And it
doesn’t make sense right away. It might seem like it’s not working fast
enough or even at all. You might catch yourself wondering if you should keep
going with it. Is it worth it? Will you ever see fruit? Or you’re not really
sure why you are doing this thing in the first place, except for a gentle calling that
you can’t quite explain.
I’m not
trying to over-spiritualize anything, because I know our feelings can deceive
us.
But if you
feel that pull in your heart to keep persevering at something {a task, a job, a
hobby, a relationship} even though it doesn’t really make sense to you or the
road ahead seems unclear, can I just encourage you to listen to that voice?
Perhaps it’s
the Holy Spirit prompting you forward.
Perhaps our
all-knowing God is carving a path that your hazy eyes cannot yet perceive.
Because God
has a plan.
And
sometimes He reveals it to us in a whisper. He doesn’t have to, but sometimes
He does.
Are you
listening?
And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper…
I Kings 19:11-12

I think the Lord has been whispering to me a LOT lately but it takes trust on my part to listen. We went to worship service on Wednesday and through song and a speaker, I felt God speaking to ME, in my ears, encouraging me. I was blown away and still feeling the emotional high from it. Have a fabulous weekend in SD!

Thank you for this. Today God sent me you. I needed this more than you will ever know. We are strangers… but today you touched my heart.

    Forever thankful,
    Allison

My problem right now is that I hear the whisper but am to scared to actually listen – if that makes sense. Listening would require a leap of faith, relinquishing control, and doing something outside my comfort zone. I know I should have more faith. Trying. Thanks, again, for your wonderful posts.

Hi. I’m Jen Russum and this blog is where I’ve been sharing narratives of God’s grace for more than a decade now. Some might say “blogs are dead” but I’m waiting for them to come back around like mom jeans and 90s flannel. I enjoy my coffee iced, my summers hot, and my dinner parties long with lots of laughter. I process all of life’s deepest, darkest, and happiest moments by writing essays in my head. When I have the time, some of these essays get typed up and shared here. I’ve always loved to write, and I hope my words bring you joy and encouragement.
