February Goals

February 3, 2014

A quick re-cap of my January goals…
Finish nursery walls… Nope. Not done yet, but I got an 8×10 photo added to the gallery wall, and I re-ordered the missing 11×14 prints. I’m not going to make the walls an official goal for this next month, but I hope to keep working on them, slowly but surely.
Finish decals in family room… Wow, you guys. This project is yet another example of why I hate DIY projects. My brother came to visit a few weeks ago and he helped me figure out the measurements for the decals so they will look like wallpaper. When I finally pulled the decals out of the package to begin applying them, I discovered the lady sent me the wrong color in my second order {since I didn’t order enough the first time around}. Ugh. I decided to redo my design to make it work with the colors I had, because I didn’t want to wait another month for her to ship the correct ones. Once I finally started applying the decals, I discovered they are the biggest pain to apply. The design is very detailed and it takes me about 20 minutes to apply one decal… and the recommended application method doesn’t work at all. I end up having to peel off parts of the decal and applying it with my hand.. If you have any decal application tricks, please let me know. If not, I have 6 decals applied and 26 to go. I’m not making it a goal to finish this month, but I hope to put up one new decal every day if I can, so maybe it will happen…
Email committee members about portfolio paper… Not only did I email my chair, but I met with her in person as well. Now I just need to sit down and revise my paper. It feels both overwhelming and do-able at the same time.
Write one note of encouragement… done.
Read Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham… done.
FAST FIX FEBRUARY

I’m assigning a theme to this month’s goals. I’m calling it “Fast Fix February”  because I’ve decided this short, 28 day month is the perfect time to tackle some annoying but small maintenance tasks that have been plaguing me for a while.
Put new battery and RAM in laptop… Confession… this one is already done. I ordered a new battery and a bigger RAM card for my struggling laptop a few weeks ago and they have been sitting on my desk for weeks, waiting to be installed. I sat down on Saturday night, which happened to be February 1st, and got both new pieces up and running. Since it was officially February when it happened, I’m still mentioning it here.
Get battery changed on key fob… The other annoying yet easy fast fix that I’ve put on the back burner is getting a new battery for the keyless entry on my car. It’s been dead since around the time Z was born and this mama would love to be able to click a button to unlock the car when she is hauling her 20 pound baby around town.
Get oil change… I added this to my list because I’m desperately overdue for an oil change. Since I’ve already accomplished my first goal of the month, I think it’s reasonable to add one more fix to my monthly list.
Read Where’d You Go, Bernadette… First step: go pick it up from the library where it’s waiting for me on the reserved books shelf.
Write one note of encouragement. One down, eleven to go.

How did you do on your goals last month?
Got any goals for February?

I like the idea of "Fast Fix February." There are definitely a few things – small, but mighty things – I can accomplish in a few minutes, an hour max, if I just commit to getting them done. I need to make a list, but I'm doing this. Thanks for the kick in the rear to get me motivated!!!!!

I'm approaching February in a similar way. I just want life to go back to normal! So that's really my one goal.

Lauren Graham, as in, Lorelai Gilmore? I'm intrigued! Where'd You Go Bernadette is also a book I've been wanting to read. I look forward to hearing how you liked it!

Hi. I’m Jen Russum and this blog is where I’ve been sharing narratives of God’s grace for more than a decade now. Some might say “blogs are dead” but I’m waiting for them to come back around like mom jeans and 90s flannel. I enjoy my coffee iced, my summers hot, and my dinner parties long with lots of laughter. I process all of life’s deepest, darkest, and happiest moments by writing essays in my head. When I have the time, some of these essays get typed up and shared here. I’ve always loved to write, and I hope my words bring you joy and encouragement.
